Daniel Keyes was an acclaimed American author renowned for his influential works in science fiction and literature, most notably the Hugo Award-winning short story and Nebula Award-winning novel, *Flowers for Algernon*. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Keyes's diverse career spanned from serving as a ship's purser in the U.S. Maritime Service to working as a fashion photographer and later, a professor of English and creative writing.
