Author : Stephen King

Stephen Edwin King, born to Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King, faced early challenges after his father abandoned the family when he was just two. Raised alongside his older brother David by their mother, Ruth, Stephen spent his youth in various locations, including Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stratford, Connecticut, before returning to his roots in Durham, Maine. There, Ruth assumed responsibilities for her aging parents while Stephen immersed himself in both academics and creative writing, earning a B.A. in English from the University of Maine at Orono in 1970. During his college years, he contributed to the school newspaper and engaged in student politics, advocating for the anti-war movement. After marrying fellow student Tabitha Spruce in 1971, he initially struggled to find teaching work, supporting his family through labor jobs and short story sales. King's literary career took off with his first professional sale in 1967, paving the way for acclaimed collections like "Night Shift." By the fall of 1971, he began teaching English at Hampden Academy while dedicating his evenings and weekends to writing, ultimately establishing himself as a master of horror and suspense.
