Tadeusz Borowski (1922-1951) was a Polish writer, poet, and journalist, born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He tragically ended his life in Warsaw. During World War II, he studied Polish literature at an underground university and actively engaged in cultural resistance. In 1943, he was arrested and sent to Auschwitz, later being transferred to Dachau. After returning to Poland in 1946, he aligned himself with the communist party and adapted his writing to the principles of socialist realism. Borowski made his literary debut in 1942 with a collection of poems titled *Gdziekolwiek ziemia*, and gained significant recognition with his 1948 short story collections, *Pożegnanie z Marią* and *Kamienny świat*.
