David J. Hand is a prominent figure in the field of statistics, currently serving as Senior Research Investigator and Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Imperial College, London, as well as Chief Scientific Advisor to Winton Capital Management. A Fellow of the British Academy and a two-time President of the Royal Statistical Society, he has received the prestigious Guy Medal from the Royal Statistical Society and sits on the Board of the UK Statistics Authority. Hand is the author of 300 scientific papers and 25 books, with his upcoming title, The Improbability Principle, set for release in February 2014. His extensive research interests encompass classification, data mining, and anomaly detection, while his practical applications span psychology, physics, and the retail credit industry, for which he and his team were honored with the 2012 Credit Collections and Risk Award. In recognition of his contributions to research and innovation, he was appointed OBE in 2013.
