Tara Westover is an American author currently residing in the UK. Raised in rural Idaho in a family that rejected formal education, she spent her childhood working in her father's junkyard and assisting her mother, a self-taught herbalist and midwife. It wasn't until she was seventeen that she stepped into a classroom for the first time, igniting a fervent pursuit of knowledge that would span a decade. Westover earned her BA from Brigham Young University in 2008 and went on to receive a prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship. She completed her MPhil at Trinity College, Cambridge in 2009 and served as a visiting fellow at Harvard University in 2010. In 2014, she returned to Cambridge to obtain her PhD in history.
