Author : Heda Margolius Kovály

Heda Margolius Kovály was a Czech author and translator whose life was marked by resilience in the face of profound adversity. After surviving the horrors of the Łódź ghetto and Auschwitz, where she lost her parents, she escaped a death march to Bergen-Belsen, only to face rejection from those she sought help from. Her first husband, who became a deputy minister in Czechoslovakia, was executed as a traitor, and her subsequent marriage brought continued hardship. In 1968, amid the Warsaw Pact invasion, Kovály and her husband relocated to the United States. In 1973, she published her memoirs, chronicling her harrowing experiences, and she and her husband finally returned to their homeland in 1996.
