Author : Procopius

Procopius of Caesarea, born in the late fifth century in Palestine, emerged from a land-owning provincial upper class and pursued a career in civil service, similar to the historian Zosimus. By A.D. 527, he had become a counselor and secretary to the renowned general Belisarius, closely accompanying him on his military campaigns for the next twelve to fifteen years, which deepened his understanding of military affairs. Revered as a significant historian of Emperor Justinian's wars, Procopius is often regarded as the most prominent of the later Greek historians.
