Westley Watende Omari Moore, born on October 15, 1978, is a multifaceted American leader currently serving as the 63rd governor of Maryland, making history as the first Black governor of the state and the only incumbent Black governor in the U.S. as of 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Moore's diverse background includes roles as an author, television producer, nonprofit executive, and investment banker. Raised primarily in New York and rooted in Maryland, he is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and holds a master’s degree from Wolfson College, Oxford, earned as a Rhodes Scholar. In addition to his public service, Moore served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve and has authored five books, including works aimed at young adults.
