Author : Spencer W. Kimball

Spencer W. Kimball, born on March 28, 1895, in Salt Lake City and raised in Thatcher, Arizona, was a prominent leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission before marrying Camilla Eyring and establishing a family in Safford, Arizona, where he ran an insurance business while actively participating in community and church leadership roles. Called as an Apostle in 1943, Kimball overcame significant health challenges to become Church President on December 30, 1973, at the age of 78. His dynamic leadership during a time of remarkable growth and vitality for the Church led to major advancements in doctrinal understanding, member unity, and global gospel outreach. Under his presidency, the number of operating temples doubled, missionary efforts increased by 50 percent, and the priesthood was extended to all worthy male members. He passed away in Salt Lake City on November 5, 1985.
