John Silas Reed was an American journalist, poet, and ardent Communist activist, best known for his eyewitness account of the October 1917 Russian Revolution in his seminal work, *Ten Days That Shook the World* (1919). A prominent war correspondent during the Mexican Revolution and World War I, Reed's passionate coverage earned him recognition in major publications like Metropolitan magazine and *The Masses*. After returning to the United States, he co-founded the Communist Labor Party in 1919, advocating for revolutionary change. Reed's fervent support for the Soviet regime led him to join the Red Guards in 1918, and although he may have become disillusioned with Soviet leadership by the end of his life, he was honored with a heroic burial at the Kremlin, becoming one of just three Americans interred at the iconic necropolis. He died in Moscow from spotted typhus.
