Thomas Cahill, an accomplished author born in New York City to Irish-American parents, was raised in Queens and the Bronx. Educated by Jesuits, he developed a deep appreciation for ancient Greek and Latin, earning a B.A. in classical literature and philosophy from Fordham University in 1964 and a pontifical degree in philosophy the following year. He went on to complete an M.F.A. in film and dramatic literature at Columbia University in 1968. Cahill's extensive academic pursuits included studying scripture at Union Theological Seminary and Hebrew at the Jewish Theological Seminary, further enriching his literary and philosophical insights. He has shared his knowledge as a professor at various universities and served as the North American education correspondent for the Times of London. Before dedicating himself to writing full time, he held the position of Director of Religious Publishing at Doubleday for six years. Cahill, who also contributes to esteemed publications like the Los Angeles Times Book Review, lives with his wife, Susan, in New York and Rome.
