Dava Sobel is a distinguished author renowned for her engaging explorations of scientific themes. A graduate of the Bronx High School of Science in 1964, she pursued higher education at Antioch College and the City College of New York before earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1969. Sobel has received honorary doctorates from the University of Bath in England and Middlebury College in Vermont, both awarded in 2002. With over forty years of experience as a science journalist, she has contributed to prestigious publications such as Audubon, Discover, Life, and The New Yorker, and has held editorial roles at Harvard Magazine and Omni. Among her collaborative works is the book "Is Anyone Out There?" co-authored with astronomer Frank Drake, but she is perhaps best known for her acclaimed title "Longitude." In recognition of her contributions to science and literature, the asteroid 30935 Davasobel is named in her honor.
