After serving as a researcher for Randolph Churchill, Gilbert took the helm of the Churchill biography project following Randolph's death in 1968, ultimately writing six of the eight volumes and editing twelve volumes of documents. His influential works cover a range of topics, including the First and Second World Wars, the Holocaust, and Jewish history. Driven by a commitment to authenticity, Gilbert meticulously sourced archives, corresponded with eyewitnesses, and curated illustrations and maps to enhance the historical narrative.
