Author : Dick Winters

Major Richard "Dick" D. Winters was a distinguished United States Army officer and decorated war veteran, best known for his leadership of Company "E," 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Winters made a historic parachute drop into Normandy on D-Day and led his men through pivotal battles across Europe, ultimately rising to command the battalion. Following the war, he returned to civilian life, working in New Jersey, before being recalled to service during the Korean War, where he served briefly at Fort Dix. Winters later founded his own business in the agricultural sector and became a respected figure in military history, with his experiences chronicled in numerous books and the acclaimed HBO mini-series Band of Brothers, in which he was portrayed by Damian Lewis. A regular guest lecturer at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Winters retired in 1997 and was the last surviving commander of Easy Company.
