Michael Patrick MacDonald, born in Boston in 1966, grew up in the Old Colony housing project in South Boston. He is a prominent advocate against violence, having initiated various programs such as gun buybacks and the South Boston Vigil Group, empowering survivors of violence and the drug trade. MacDonald’s acclaimed memoir, *All Souls*, received the American Book Award, and his second book, *Easter Rising*, published in 2006, garnered widespread recognition. He has contributed opinion pieces to the Boston Globe and is currently working on a screenplay adaptation of *All Souls* for director Ron Shelton. MacDonald has received multiple fellowships and residencies, including the Anne Cox Chambers Fellowship at the MacDowell Colony, and he now resides in Brooklyn, New York, where he focuses on writing and public speaking on issues related to race, class, trauma, and social change.
